What is nature positive?

Nature positive(Opens in a new tab/window) is a global societal goal defined as ‘halt and reverse nature loss by 2030 on a 2020 baseline, and achieve full recovery by 2050’.

For business, this means a new way of operating, strategising and collaborating. We need a transformational shift towards a nature positive economy.

What is the Nature Positive Matters initiative?

Launched on the eve of the Global Nature Positive Summit(Opens in a new tab/window), Nature Positive Matters is a public-private initiative to accelerate Australia's transition to a nature positive future.

It establishes a network of businesses, organisations and individuals who recognise the importance of nature. The network is committed to collaborating on a program of work that strengthens nature-related action including reporting, investment, and embedding nature into decision-making.

Why join Nature Positive Matters?

Businesses are under growing pressure from consumers, investors, employees, communities and governments to integrate sustainability into their core business. They need the capability to advance and promote their nature positive actions and avoid greenwashing.

Nature Positive Matters provides a platform for businesses, organisations and individuals to promote proven nature positive capabilities. The network supports action and drives further impact of nature positive initiatives across sectors.

Businesses that protect, restore and sustainably manage nature can unlock opportunities, including:

  • Enhancing business resilience by understanding impacts and dependencies on nature to strengthen and innovate value chains.
  • Meeting net zero and decarbonisation commitments with nature-based solutions.
  • Building a positive reputation with investors, employees, customers and industry peers.
  • Unlocking innovation and market opportunities such as environmental markets and the circular economy.
  • Accessing finance opportunities as financial institutions and investors introduce financing solutions that reward action on nature and climate.
  • Preparing for nature-related reporting and disclosures as international standard setters introduce mandatory reporting and the Australian Government signals a ‘climate first, not only’ approach.

What is the Nature Finance Council?

Members of the Nature Finance Council(Opens in a new tab/window) provide input and advice on the Nature Positive Matters initiative. The Council advises the Minister for the Environment and Water on how to increase private sector investment in nature.
